Context
As a manager, I saw how often planning time off stopped at approving the dates. Who would cover the work, where the handoff lived and what someone needed when they returned were separate problems left for the team to figure out.
I built Be Right Back to bring those pieces together, helping teams plan for an absence and keep work moving while someone is away.
Product and experience
I took Be Right Back from an operational problem I’d experienced firsthand to a working software product. I handled the scope, product design, development and launch, including a self-serve onboarding experience.
The product follows the COVR Method™ I developed: Capture, Organize, Verify, Return. It connects time-off planning with coverage, handoffs and a record of what happened while someone was away.
Building with AI
I used Claude Code and Lovable throughout development, translating product requirements into working features and iterating on the experience.
The product uses React and TypeScript, with Supabase handling the database, authentication and backend functions, Stripe for billing, Resend for emails and PostHog for product analytics.
AI workflows and quality monitoring
I built AI workflows to help monitor and improve the product as it runs. Claude routines check database records, review outgoing emails against their context and rate them for helpfulness and correctness. Other routines review analytics to identify patterns and areas that need attention.
These workflows support a self-healing approach: checking what the system is doing, identifying issues and feeding those findings into corrective work.
Preparing for growth
Alongside the product, I developed handoff templates, marketing content and resources to introduce teams to Be Right Back through the problems it addresses.
That work brings together my marketing experience and product thinking: explaining the need clearly, showing how the product can help and creating a straightforward path to getting started.
Current stage
Be Right Back is launched and available to use. It’s still early, and my focus is now on customer acquisition and sales.
The product grew out of a need I experienced firsthand as a manager. Building it has brought together my experience in product thinking, operations and marketing, from defining the problem through development and launch.
